Katopodis wants a new trial
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—- Gregory John Katopodis has asked a federal judge for a new trial following Wednesday’ conviction on 97 fraud charges.
Attorney Jim Parkman filed the request Thursday in federal court.
Judge Karon Bowdre quickly denied the motion for state reasons she had rejected his motion for acquittal during the trial.
Wednesday a jury convicted Katopodis of using a children’s computer charity as his personal piggy bank.
In the motion, Parkman argued the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence of Katopodis’ guilt of establishing a scheme to defraud.and claimed defense attorneys were not allowed to refer to cash katopodis deposited in charity’s account as ‘John’s money’.
Katopodis faces 20 years in prison for each of the 97 charges at his October 28 sentencing.

Too bad for you Johnboy, the jury got it right! Your only hope now is to tell all you know about the rest of your fellow crooks and hope to cut a deal with the DA re your sentence! I’m sure Langford, Collins, Smoot, Bell,etc are sweating about that! The city could make a fortune televising Langford’s trial on pay per view!

What a great country we live in where every crook, murderer, rapist, robber and thief, can stand trial, be convicted by a jury of their peers and then turn around and cry “WAAAAH WAAAAH ! like a little baby and scream “I DON’T LIKE THAT CONVICTION, I DON’T LIKE THE WAY THIS TURNED OUT, IT’S NOT IN MY FAVOR, WAAAAH WAAAAAAH, I WANT A NEW TRIAL!!!
Suck it up (no pun intended) John Boy….you played the game, you cheated, you got caught, now you have to pay the price for being caught. But don’t you worry none….. soon enough you’ll have your pal Larry Langford in the cell next to you to keep you company, and your other pals, Betty Fine Collins, Sheila Smoot, William Bell, Carns, Humphreyes and Buckelew….all right there to keep you company when your gay porn star pal isn’t there to visit you.
Yep, God Bless America, land of the “But that’s not faaaair, I want it my way” criminal defense cry.
BTW Johnny where are you getting all the $ to pay for your attorney, did you hide it in Boston, etc.? Will your less than 91 cents that Parkman states you don’t have to your name be adequate?
For the last few years I have become sickened by the mention of his name, it speaks of corruption. He is a thief, probably has been for many years, a liar for at least the same period of time and one of many politicians who fed at the trough of greed. When these “pigs from the trough” become slaughtered (serve time) they will meet true pigs who will feast on them.
Some day justice will allow for the additional costs incurred for thugs like him to have to pay monies for all the egregious fillings with the courts for retrials and the like. Then society will begin to put an end to the frivolity of their tries at “push backs” these convicted people have already been adjudged to be guilty.
