Investigators Turn To Hispanic Community For Answers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala—A $10,000 reward and 10 agencies across Alabama are working together to solve the mystery murder of five men. All were Hispanic and found dead with their throats slashed Wednesday. Investigators are appealing to the community for help.

“What we do need to have is more involvement from the Hispanic community from a law enforcement standpoint. We need more what commonly called community policing,“ said Sheriff Chris Curry.

One El Salvadorian man who wouldn’t share his name said the Hispanic community is tight-knit but most fear retaliation.
“I feel bad about it, they are Hispanic like me. I don’t know how it happened. Drug dealers? Was someone robbed? A lot of stuff happens around here so you never know,“ he said.

Authorities believe the trucks found yesterday just two miles away from the apartments could be connected to the case, but they aren’t sure how. While the vehicles are processed for evidence, investigators are searching for other clues through a tip line.

“We are not interested in an immigration status on anyone calling in tips or information. We are interested in helping locate the people or persons that did this,“ Curry said.

Management at Cahaba Lakes said, “We are confident this was an isolated crime involving people linked to each other—not a random act of violence, that could have caused further harm.“

Authorities want anyone with information to call the tip line anonymously at 205 669 9116, for Spanish dial 877 298 3220.
