Congressman Spencer Bachus today announced that federal fire grants have been awarded to the Moody Fire Department and the Cool Springs Fire Department.
“Firefighters are on the front lines every day, protecting lives and property. This grant program helps ensure that fire companies have the necessary resources to quickly and effectively respond to emergency calls. By assisting our local fire companies, we are helping to improve public safety,“ Bachus said.
Bachus announced the following grants.
Moody Fire Department - $42,845
Operations and Safety Grant for purchase of equipment.
Chief James Robinson said, “The Moody Fire Department is certainly grateful for Congressman Bachus’ continued support of the firefighter grant program. The award of this grant will allow the department to purchase equipment that will have a great impact on the day to day operations of the department and allow for the continued support of neighboring departments.”
Cool Springs Fire Department - $220,139
Operations and Safety Grant for purchase of a new fire truck.
Chief Shane Layfield said, “I am thrilled to get this good news, and we will put the new truck to good use. Our department has been trying to upgrade and has been working with older equipment. This will allow us to better serve our community. Thank you for this wonderful news.”
Funds awarded under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program are used to meet the firefighting and emergency needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated medical services organizations. Only the applications most closely conforming to program priorities are considered and scored by peer review panels.
The program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security.
