Gov. Bob Riley has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff on state government buildings in honor of those who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Today is the seventh anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center twin towers in New York City and the Pentagon in northern Virginia.

The governor is encouraging local governments and schools to also fly flags at half-staff on Thursday.

The governor says flags will return to flying at full-staff Friday.
