Margaret Hoelzer broke the world record in the 200 meter backstroke Saturday night in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials and has qualified for two events in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing in August.

Hoelzer swam a 2:06.09 to outdistance runner-up Elizabeth Beisel, a 15 year old from Rhode Island. Hoelzer, a former Auburn swimmer, already holds the American record but this is the first time she has held a world record.
