JASPER, Ala. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fire that damaged the home of a Walker County sheriff’s investigator and destroyed two vehicles on his property.

Walker County Sheriff John Mark Tirey said department deputies and Pineywoods volunteer firefighters responded to a call early Friday morning regarding a vehicle fire at the home of Sgt. Dayron Bridges. Tirey said Bridges and his wife awoke to the smell of smoke around midnight.

He said when they went outside, they found his wife’s vehicle and his sheriff’s vehicle on fire. Tirey said he believes the fire was intentional.

Bridges said the fire destroyed both vehicles and melted the front side of his house.

He said it also caused minor smoke damage on the inside.
