Early morning homicide in Bessemer

A man was found dead in Bessemer early this morning.
Pat Curry of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office tells NBC13HD News James David Porter, 43, of Bessemer, was discovered at 128 7th Street South in Bessemer just after 2:00am CT today, June 18, 2009.
Early indications are Porter died of an apparent gunshot wound, but an examination is underway to determine an official cause of death.
The Bessemer Police Department is investigating.
