DOTHAN, Ala.—Dothan police seized more than $70,000 worth of drugs over the past two months, half of which was from a 10-pound marijuana deal police recently interrupted.

Dothan narcotics division supervisor Sgt. Jimmy Holley said police investigators arrested both Michael Kevin Axtell, 37, of Alpine Lane, and Jasmick Lamar Thomas, 25, of Elderberry Drive, and charged them each with felony trafficking cannabis.

“We observed the delivery in the backyard of the house,“ Holley said. “It was an ongoing investigation on Axtell, and he’d been dealing in pounds and pounds on a weekly basis.“

Holley said police interrupted Axtell selling between $32,000 and $35,000 worth of marijuana to Thomas at a residence on Debbie Drive last month. He said police found the marijuana separated into 10, 1 pound plastic bags.

Dothan Police Chief John Powell announced Axtell and Thomas as two of 19 people arrested over the past two months as part of ongoing drug investigations in the city of Dothan. Powell said more than $70,000 worth of packaged marijuana and marijuana plants were seized as part of the investigations. He also said police seized a total of 14 pounds of marijuana, 22 marijuana plants, about 135 grams of cocaine, 3 ounces of meth and 250 Xanax pills. Police also seized more than $12,000 in cash, three handguns and six vehicles.

According to a statement from the Dothan Police Department, investigators charged people with a range of felony drug crimes, including second-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana, trafficking meth and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. As part of the ongoing drug investigations, police charged Fred Kenyatta Collins, 37, with attempted murder, along with several felony drug crimes.

Police are also looking for four people charged with felony drug crimes, including Ray Charles McCloud, 28, of South Appletree Street, who is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a controlled substance; Todd Evans, 35, of Webb Road, who is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana; Jason Dewayne Creel, 34, of Moates Street, who is charged with attempt to commit a controlled substance crime; and Dantrail Lee Mills, 23, of Duke Street, who is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana.

Powell encouraged anyone with information about drug activity in the city of Dothan to call the Dothan Police Department at 615-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 793-7000.
