Missing Decatur police officer arrested in Vegas

WAFF 48 News is following breaking news this morning out of Decatur.

The missing Decatur police officer has been found.

WAFF 48 News has confirmed through the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada that Sgt. Faron White is under arrest as a fugitive from justice there.

Decatur Police say White stole more than $2,500 from the department, and then staged a struggle at his office before fleeing to Nevada.

Sgt. White is being held at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. Bond is set at $20,000. He is charged with first degree theft, which is punishable with 2 to 20 years in prison if convicted. Decatur Police say more charges are possible.

Decatur Police have made a second arrest in the case. Sarah Elizabeth Richardson of Decatur was arrested and charged with first degree hindering prosecution or apprehension for allegedly helping Sgt. White stage his disappearance. Bond for her is set at $2,500.

WAFF 48 News also has a crew at the Decatur Police Station gathering more information and will pass it on as soon as it becomes available.
