JACKSONVILLE, Ala- On the heels of a violent crime spike in the Anniston- Oxford area, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office is conducting a citizen’s firearm class with renewed emphasis on self-defense and firearm safety for citizens living in various East Alabama communities.

Though the county has hosted this program for years, a spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Department stated that a recent increase in the number of people attending the class shows that there “is a sign of worry in the community”.

Fifty –nine people attended the last session which was held on Thursday, July 17th.

Over 30 people attended the gun safety session Saturday at the Calhoun County DSA Range.
