Colonial Bank announces layoffs in 5 states

Colonial Bank has announces a reduction in workforce that affects employees in five states.
A company spokesperson says the changes began Monday, July 6, 2009, and will continue this week.
The reduction affects 3% of its total workforce, which is 4,873 employees.
That reduction will eliminate 136 positions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Nevada.
The breakdown per state looks like this:
Alabama - 48 positions
Florida - 62 positions
Georgia - 16 positions
Texas - 8 positions
Nevada - 5 positions
The positions being eliminated include current employees and unfilled positions.
No branches are being closed.
