A raid on an alleged cockfighting and
gambling ring in Clay County led to one arrest.

The sheriff’s office began investigating the Beagle Club about 8
months ago.

An investigator said it was a well-organized operation in the
Delta community that attracted as many as 300 participants.

66-year-old Benny Sprayberry, the owner of the property,
surrendered to deputies on Christmas Eve. He was charged with
promoting gambling and cockfighting, both are misdemeanors.

Authorities said the site included concession stands and fight
rules that were written in English and Spanish.

Deputies said no animals were found on the property.
