CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - A Chilton County man remained jailed Thursday after a standoff involving one apparent hostage ended without any injuries.

Kenneth Mims, 34, surrendered to law enforcement officials late Wednesday afternoon after nearly two hours of negotiations.

As deputies sought to serve arrest warrants, Davis fled in his vehicle a short distance, jumped out and ran into a mobile home, where he apparently took an elderly female hostage, authorities said.

Deputies were able to talk the hostage to safety within 30 minutes, and Mims eventually gave up a weapon described as a butcher knife and surrendered.

Sheriff Kevin Davis said Mims was being held on criminal mischief and other charges Thursday, with more serious charges under investigation. The sheriff said he did not know if Mims had a lawyer.
