Woman dead after struck by car at Fairfield middle schoolOne woman has died after she and nine children were struck by a car this afternoon near Forest Hills Middle School in Fairfield.
The woman was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital this evening.
All the children were transported to various hospitals for other injuries. One child is in serious condition after surgery at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Witnesses tell NBC13HD that a 67-year-old woman was picking up a child, lost control of her car, and hit a group of people standing near the school.
Authorities are taking the woman’s car to be investigated.

pyrojohn, why are you so quick to throw an old lady in jail? Do you not know of any child molesters or meth dealers that might possibly need the cell space as opposed to an old lady that had an accident with her car? Do you think that she looked at that crowd of people and said to herself and her grandson “LET’S GET EM!!“, then floored it? Yes a lady was killed and little kids were hurt and that lady is going to have to live with that the rest of her life…obviously she has children and grandchildren and I am sure she is devastated by what has happened…Jail is supposed to be for people who willfully break the laws and throw the laws in the face of society…people who MEANT to kill someone or assault someone or rob someone or rape someone.
What is wrong with our world when the need for vengance and retribution has suddenly become the expected result no matter the consequences…This was a horrible accident no matter what the investigation proves out about the fine details.
The worst this woman should receive is the permanent loss of her license.
Get real people.
I thought this was the Bible Belt…so much for “Christian Values”, eh? So much for forgiveness and all that crazy crazy Christiany stuff…(insert eye rolling emoticon here)
I am not sure what facts I am missing a woman driving a car runs over 10 people, 10 not one that might have been in a blind spot but 10. She could have hit the gas and not the brake but that doesn’t mean it is not her fault. 16 or 60 when you chose to drive a car you and you alone are responable for the outcome of your actions while driving. You say what if she was part of your family? well what if she runs over part of your family next time? could happen
I cant believe people are already forming opinions and wanting jail time for the 67 yr old woman before they know what really happened. Why not wait and find out the details and truth before crucifying someone? What if happened to you or a family member. Would you be so quick to judge? Im thinking not…...
Jail time? she’s a 67 year old woman. Now if she was messin with a cell phone, that’s a different story. I figure she got confused and hit the gas instead of the brakes. Maybe after a certain age, people should have to take a driving test and re-qualify. Then some one would holler age discrimination.
Lets hope that was the last day that woman gets to drive a car at least. She should get some jail time.
Thats a shame, but lets not have to hear about it for a month now.
