Capital Murder Hearing in Shelby County Child’s Death

The man accused of killing an 11-year-old child he was taking care of is expected in court.

Ryan Russell’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday in Shelby County.

Russell, 35, is charged with capital murder in the death of Katherine Gillespie.  The fifth grader was found shot to death inside their home in Inverness on June 16.  Russell was the child’s cousin and her legal guardian.  Russell was also found in the home, lying unconscious in a locked bathroom.

Ryan Russell is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.
