The following is a news release from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Early Sunday morning, October 11, the Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that a woman had found an intruder passed out under the bed of her invalid husband. Upon reaching the scene on County Road 169 in the Cartersville Community, Deputies and Ider Police Department Officers found that two subjects had apparently broken into the residence in the middle of the night. One of the subjects had left the residence after taking miscellaneous items, but the other had hidden under a bed and passed out there until found by the homeowner around dawn.
The two subjects, Christopher James Wright, 37, of Trenton, GA, and his son, Caleb James Wright, 19, of Higdon, broke into the residence through a side door around 2:00 Sunday morning. The subjects, who were reportedly intoxicated, had taken approximately $200 in cash, $100 worth of jewelry, car keys, and medication. They were about to leave the residence when one of the residents woke up, and the subjects hid. After a few minutes, Christopher Wright emerged from hiding and went back outside to wait in the vehicle for Caleb, while Caleb Wright apparently passed out in his hiding place under the homeowner’s bed. He remained under the bed until the homeowner’s wife woke around dawn, when she went into the room to check on her husband and observed Caleb Wright under the bed. At that time the homeowner contacted a neighbor and the police.
The neighbor contacted was actually Caleb Wright’s grandfather, who removed him from the residence and later turned him over to officers. Ider Police Department had also observed who turned out to be Christopher White walking on the road outside the scene. He had apparently waited in his vehicle for Caleb to emerge from the house for the past several hours, and when he did not come back, Christopher had started to look for him.
Investigator Mitchell Dendy responded to the scene and questioned both subjects. They were subsequently arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center. Caleb Wright was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, while Christopher Wright was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.
All of the items taken were returned to the owners. Both suspects remain in jail at this time, Caleb Wright on $30,000 bond and Christopher Wright on $45,000 bond.
