BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Former Jefferson County Commissioner Mary Buckelew has been sentenced to 3 years probation for lying to a federal grand jury in August 2008.
Buckelew must also pay $20,000 fine and do community service for 200 hours in Jefferson County School District.
Buckelew has pleaded guilty to lying to the grand jury about receiving about $4,000 in gifts from investment banker Bill Blount between 2003-2004.
Blount received millions of dollars in county bond swap business while Buckelew served on the Jefferson County Commission.
Blount has pleaded guilty to a bribery conspiracy involving former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford who was convicted himself 3 weeks ago.

Chicago1: The typical ploy of every scumbag is to “admit wrong” once they have been caught. In my opinion it puts them on the same level as a wife beater; “Oh I am so sorry baby for crushing your nasal cavity with my fist” I won’t do it again. Yea sure he won’t! She’s always been a crook and a weasel.
Unlike the rest of the crooks, Mary B came forward and admitted to what she did and that is the reason she got such a light sentence.
The rest of them lied, cheated, hemmed and hawed and flat-out DENIED they did any wrong, Larry Langford in particular.
I am not black either but if I were I would be even more pissed than I am.It is beyond my comprehension how this lieing criminal skates with probation. She must have dimed on a lot of people to make this deal. Maybe its just like male vs female child molestors, if its a man he is a heathen (this is very true) but if its a woman she is depressed or tramatized by a man and that made her do it (this is not true).
I cant believe that wench didn’t get jail time. Chicago1, I totally agree with you, I bet by evening news time one them will be on tv whinning about racism, I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE POOR OPRESSED AND MISTREATED BLACKS!!!
I’m not black and I’m not saying this had anything to do with racism, but she should have gotten a stiffer sentence than three years probation and a fine.
All these crooked politicans need to learn a lesson. If you do the crime you should do the time. And what she did was a crime.
Oh you just wait and see….... the first thing to be sad about this in the news, on an official capacity, will be from a black “politician” and they will claim racism because she didn’t get sentenced to prison. Mark my word, just you wait and see.
