ALPINE, Ala. (AP) - One of Talladega County’s most prominent citizens was found dead in a cemetery near his home and the church where he served as pastor.

Coroner Jerry Castleberry said the Rev. Larry Morris was found late Tuesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at about 6:30 p.m.

Castleberry, who called for an autopsy, would not confirm a cause of death. A message left for Castleberry was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

Morris had been pastor at Alpine Baptist Church since 1965 and served on the Talladega County Board of Education for more than 30 years. He was elected to a new term on the board in November.

Morris, who was also a practicing attorney, served as Cheaha Mental Health’s executive director for more than 30 years and was county Democratic Party chairman for several years.
