The Birmingham Water Works Board will be closed Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, to observe the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

In a news release from the BWWB, the utility company has observed the day every year since the attacks.

BWWB Chairman Anthony Barnes says it is a way to allow employees to be with their families and reflect on the events of that day.

The BWWB will resume normal business hours Sept. 12, 2008.
