An Auburn University student was killed and another injured in traffic accident on U.S. Interstate 85 Tuesday night near Montgomery.

Freshman Sarah Anderson, 19, from Robertsdale died and sophomore Sara Clayton, 20, of Auburn was injured when their hydroplaning vehicle overturned about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Alabama State Trooper Sgt. Steve Jarrett said.

Clayton was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment and was listed in fair condition Wednesday, said Melody Ragland, marketing coordinator for the hospital.

The single-vehicle crash occurred near mile marker 13, Jarrett said. Anderson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash, Jarrett said.

After Clayton and Anderson had been removed from the scene, the overturned 2006 Chevrolet Equinox was struck by a commercial truck which could not stop in time, Jarrett said.

Mack Funeral Home and Crematory in Robertsdale is handling funeral arrangements.

So sad and senseless.  PLEASE wear your seat belts, every time all the time, everyone.
