Arrest made in sleeping woman’s murder in Brighton

A Capital Murder suspect has been arrested in connection with a Brighton homicide.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Detectives along with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force went to the 500 block of Gadsden Hwy Birmingham Alabama to serve an arrest warrant for capital murder on Jeremy Dewayne Craig, 24.
Craig was found inside the apartment and arrested without incident.
Craig was transported to Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham and is being held under no bond.
Craig is believed to be involved in the fatal shooting of 48 year old Della Mae Bank who was asleep in her Brighton home when the house was struck by a hail of gunfire on the night of August 3rd around 11:00 pm CT.
It is believed the shooting was in retaliation for a murder that occurred the same night in nearby Birmingham.
That homicide is being investigated by Birmingham Police detectives.
Sheriff’s detectives believe the shooters in the Brighton case thought the person responsible for the murder in Birmingham was in the home where Banks was killed and that Banks was not the intended target.
The investigation is ongoing and another arrest is expected.
