HOOVER, Ala.—-  Restaurants, sporting goods stores and team memorabilia shops are hoping the new football season will boost sales in sagging economy.\

The cash register at Tide Fever-Tiger Pride was getting a workout as the first weekend of football arrived.

Fans were lined up to buy shirts, automobile flags and caps.

Manager Brittany King says the Patton Creek shop’s bottom line counts on this time of year.

“It’s essential.  I think it’s even more essential for our neighbors in Patton Creek because we bring out huge crowds in the football season. It helps out every one around here.  It’s a fun time,“ King pointed out.

Meanwhile, just up the street at Buffalo Wild Wings, General Manager T. Lazarus says his business looks forward to the season of the pigskin all year.

“This is the best time of the year for us.  We look forward to it.  Last night it kicked off with the South Carolina game and we saw a big increase in sales,“ Lazarus said.

Both businesses say their sales usually double during the football season.
