Alabama police plan next move in baby death probe

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery police have labeled the
search for a missing baby as a death investigation.
Police were trying to determine their next step in the case
Wednesday.
Officials searched a Salem landfill for the infant’s body on
Tuesday but no evidence was found. Major Huey Thornton said they
would possibly search a Tallassee landfill as well.
The investigation began after a hospital reported that a
pregnant woman came in on Oct. 19 but she refused the doctor’s
advice that she should deliver the baby then. She signed a waiver
and left.
She returned about a week later and was no longer pregnant.
Thornton said police have reason to believe the baby might have
been delivered and placed in the trash.
No charges have been filed in the case.
