BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Florence man has been indicted on
federal charges of transporting a young girl from Mexico for
prostitution.
U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance’s office says a four-count indictment
was issued against 30-year-old Manuel Enrique Zelaya-Rodriguez. The
charges include sex trafficking of a girl under the age of 18 and
coercing a minor to engage in prostitution.
Authorities say the girl was transported from Mexico to Alabama
for prostitution purposes and had been in several states working as
a prostitute.
The TimesDaily reports that Florence police arrested
Zelaya-Rodriguez on Sept. 9. He is accused of arranging sexual
encounters between men and a 15-year-old girl for money. The girl
is in the custody of the Lauderdale County Department of Human
Resources.
