FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - One woman suffered facial burns and two
others were injured Saturday after a 34-foot boat exploded at the
fueling dock at Marina Mar in Florence.
Killen police say a female marina employee who was fueling the
boat was blown into the water and sustained burns to her face.
Police say the explosion also blew a man, woman and dog out of the
twin-engine Wellcraft.
Officer Dennis Tate says all three were transported by ambulance
to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening
injuries. Police did not identify the victims.
Witnesses say the boat had been filled with fuel when the owner
started one of the vessel’s two engines.
The owner and his passenger smelled gas fumes and when the
second engine was started, the boat exploded.
