The Day Ahead- Friday, May 16, 2008:

-Birmingham's eastern area will host a city-wide Spring Carnival Extravaganza at the former Food World parking lot on Old Springville Road. Exciting thrill rides for all ages, delicious food concessions, and lots of fun are what event organizers have said that patrons can expect when they show-up to ride on the "Midway" for this awesome three-day event. Admission will be free from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. today. More than 18 carnival rides and 15 concessions are vastly making their way to the Magic City for an old-fashioned good time.

-Volunteers with the American Cancer Society will be holding the Urban Relay For Life tonight from 6pm to 12am, at Legion Field. Relay For Life is an overnight event where teams of people walk along a track to support the fight against cancer. Survivors are honored, and those lost to the disease are remembered. The money raised by the teams goes to the American Cancer Society for cancer research, education, advocacy and support programs.

-The Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department is bringing more family entertainment to the city this summer with the new Music in the Park series. Music in the Park will alternate every other Friday with Friday Night Flicks, so families are sure to be entertained this summer. The outdoor music series kicks off with old time string band, "Flying Jenny", tonight at 6:30pm at Veterans Park in Alabaster.
