First Day of Deliberations Ends in Manslaughter Trial

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Lashonda Spigner will have to wait at least one more day to learn her fate.

The jury in her manslaughter trial deliberated for about three hours Thursday before going home without reaching a verdict.

Spigner's 3 year old son Darrion Grant died in a fire after she left him home alone with his 9 year old brother in February 2007.

While Spigner was at a party on the other side of Birmingham  when a hot stove caused her house to catch fire.

Grant was trapped in the bedroom when burning debris fell from the ceiling.

The jury will return to Judge Gloria Bahakel's courtroom to continue their deliberations at 9:00 A.M. Friday.
