Former Birmingham mayor Larry Langford had harsh words about the Birmingham media and NBC13HD Wednesday afternoon after he was found guilty on all 60 counts in his federal corruption trial.
Langford faced 60 charges from a federal indictment returned in June 2008 and unsealed 6 months later.
Among the charges were bribery, money laundering, conspiracy, mail and wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
Langford now faces a maximum of 804 years in prison. His office of the Mayor of Birmingham is also vacated.
City Council President Carole Smitherman will over as Acting Mayor until a special election is held in early-mid December.
Prosecutors claimed that Langford accepted $235,000 in cash, clothing and jewelry from investment banker Bill Blount and lobbyist Al LaPierre.
In exchange, prosecutors argued that Langford arranged lucrative bond swap deals for Blount and LaPierre while Langford served as President of the Jefferson County Commission.
Langford pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed the money and clothing were loans and gifts from friends, with no strings attached.
Blount has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and bribery and LaPierre admitted guilt to conspiracy and filing a false tax return.

Your posts are full of hate and rage towards the white people. I have never raped, killed or enslaved anyone nor has anyone I know, and I am sure you have never known anyone that has. You have no clue what “your people” went through. Have you ever had to endure the harsh treatment they received, I seriously doubt it? This world has come a long way since slavery. You are so correct, times have changed and will keep changing, and maybe you should do the same. LOL Stop living in the past and stop thinking everyone owes you something.
The bottom line is that Larry was found guilty, black, white, brown, yellow, it doesn’t make any difference, the jury has spoken, just as it did with Richard and Don. As old as I am, it still amazes me how often I hear from both “sides” the issue of race come up. I find it difficult to defend the position of the blacks when you can look at our nation’s leadership and see people like Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, and certainly last but not least, our current president. My grandfathers had no more to do with the enslaving of the African-Americans that I did. Should we also execute the children of murders because of the parent’s crime? I think not. We are not a nation of blacks and whites. We are a nation of humans, of all colors, shapes and sizes, and the quicker we ALL realize that, the better off we will be.
Just how totally sad were Mr. and Mrs. Langford following the verdict? Unfortunately, we all knew the race card would be played. No doubt. And, dear Ms. Langford - in response to your “only in Alabama…“, I would remind you of your geography that there are 49 other states, plus the District of Columbia, that have homes for sale and offer high-end boutiques. As they say - if you don’t like it, leave it. Your comments serve nothing but to set race relations back decades.
Mr. Paepcke - I watched you and listened to you. Superb job! Just remember - the truth hurts and those affected by the truth tend to lash out to redirect their anger. Stand tall - you “done good”.

Do you think LL is not guilty? What do you think his conviction should have been? Do you have a point other than you clearly hate white people? We all know that it is ok to hate white people and that in no way makes you raciest. Why is it only whites that are raciest?

And,too, I’d like to know just what kind of evidence would it take to make you say, “Guilty, Larry Langford!“....if what the government presented wasn’t enough for you, just tell all of us here what you would have like to seen come out in this trial!
I personally do not believe I’m racist at all. It takes all kinds of people to make this world go ‘round. We all have a role to play. If you are an actively working member of society and doing everything you can possibly do to make your own world…..and your family’s world….a better place to live, then it makes little difference what color you are. And that about sums up 90% of the population’s feeling about racism. I personally know a LOT of black people and I also know a LOT of white people…..not one of them, to my knowledge, feels they are any better than the other. All it takes is respect for everyone…no matter who they are. We are all in this together.
