Former Birmingham mayor Larry Langford had harsh words about the Birmingham media and NBC13HD Wednesday afternoon after he was found guilty on all 60 counts in his federal corruption trial.
Langford faced 60 charges from a federal indictment returned in June 2008 and unsealed 6 months later.
Among the charges were bribery, money laundering, conspiracy, mail and wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
Langford now faces a maximum of 804 years in prison. His office of the Mayor of Birmingham is also vacated.
City Council President Carole Smitherman will over as Acting Mayor until a special election is held in early-mid December.
Prosecutors claimed that Langford accepted $235,000 in cash, clothing and jewelry from investment banker Bill Blount and lobbyist Al LaPierre.
In exchange, prosecutors argued that Langford arranged lucrative bond swap deals for Blount and LaPierre while Langford served as President of the Jefferson County Commission.
Langford pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed the money and clothing were loans and gifts from friends, with no strings attached.
Blount has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and bribery and LaPierre admitted guilt to conspiracy and filing a false tax return.

There is nothing racist about this and I for one am sick of the blacks playing the race card. If you don’t like America, LEAVE!!! You people were never in chains,never picked cotton, never were sold in slavery, and probably never will visit Africa. Get over yourself. We all come from somewhere and we (of all races have had difficulities), especially the Indians, but do you here them yelling racism? Langford was corrupt and was found guilty. That’s the end of it…Why can’t you people ever except responsibilty for your own actions.
What about this…the four black guys and one black girl who abducted and cut off the boy and girls body parts, raped them repeatedly, and them shot him and poured drano down her throat before she died but yet a black judge can’t decide if they should get the death penalty or not. Is the whites young couple getting a fair trial? I guess so since they are white. I try not to be racist but I’m tired of the blacks aways playing the race card when it suits them… it’s disgusting. Why don’t you people just leave America? And remember this, if you people can bring up the race card considering you were never slaves…the white people can bring up the fact we didn’t bring you over here and would prefer you leave….
And John, you did a great job! You’re an outstanding reporter, one of the best the station has, I think. You showed more class, dignity and reserve than Larry and Melba Langford will ever have or be able to attain.

Ya know, it’s funny. I watched that video and I really have to say that I feel sorry for Larry and Melba. Not in a sympathetic manner for their “demise”, but sorry for them as people.
How sad and miserable they both must be. To stand there and lie and belittle others and curse and act like a couple of spoiled brat children who got in trouble and can’t accept the blame, and instead want to stand there pointing fingers and calling names and saying “He did it, he did it”... Yep, I do feel sorry for them that they’re so pathetic. A shame indeed.
Please stop saying cruel comments to one another. You are adults and should act like it. Whether you’re black or white that should not matter, but you should never belittle someone continuously. I would be ashamed of myself if I acted in that way. Langford was found guilty, and you should talk about the issue here and nothing else. Stop being hateful to each other. It is wrong!!!
This isn’t a race thing. Langford was as corrupt as they come and that corruption was exposed - pure and simple. There were blacks on the jury. MarqX is uneducated and very bitter. How can blacks call others racist when there is an NAACP, a Negro College Fund, Black Student Association, etc.? If there were white associations and college funds what would he think. Langford would be corrupt and guilty no matter what his race. Look at our white brother Richard Scrushy.
So let’s say we get W.E.Tv Like your B.E.Tv or White History Month Like your Black History Month, or even a United White Collage Fund Like The United Negro Collage Fund …..No No No we can’t do that because it would be racist.
My only point is; it is only racist when it comes from the white man, never when it comes from the black man. Why is that??????

Mayor Langford did a superb job in addressing the news media, I want play into this race thing because it’s a spiritual thing (good and evil)and people don’t even realize it.
