UA expects NCAA ruling on textbook case

TUSCALOOSA - Officials from the University of Alabama are expecting to receive the results today from the NCAA investigation surrounding the textbook scandal that occured back in 2007.

University officials appeared before the NCAA Committee on Infractions back on February 21 and agreed that they had failed to monitor how its’ student-athlete textbook distribution system worked.

Some 200 Alabama athletes from various sports are believed to be involved in the case, which began during the 2005-06 school year.  The school admits scholarship athletes received textbooks then distributed them to fellow students. 

University officials self-reported the case to the NCAA back in October of 2007 and subsequently suspended five football players a total of four games each.
It’s unclear how severe the NCAA penalties could be considering Alabama was in a five-year probationary period.
