BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—- The prosecution called its final witnesses in the Banana Joe’s double murder trial Wednesday afternoon.

Pierre Smith is accused of murdering Willie Daniels and Jason Showers outside the Five Points South nightclub on July 5, 2008.

Wednesday Coroner Dr. Robert Brissie testified that Daniels was killed by a single gunshot to his lower back through is spine.

Showers died from a gunshot wound to his hip, Brissie said.

Firearms specialist Mitch Rector told the jury that the same 40-caliber pistol killed both men.

Smith was 16 at the time of the crime and turns 18 a week from today.

He has argued that despite multiple eye witnesses, he was not the triggerman and that he was taking a beating of his own when the fatal shots were fired.

Defense testimony will get underway Thursday morning.
