LOXLEY, Ala. (AP) - State troopers say a sports utility vehicle
crowded with nine teenagers apparently was speeding before it
wrecked near Loxley, killing a 15-year-old and sending seven others
to hospitals.

Troopers said Charles Williams of Summerdale died late Sunday
afternoon when the SUV overturned on Interstate 10. The 16-year-old
driver, Turner Little of Foley, was in stable condition Tuesday at
University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Six others were sent to area hospitals with injuries that were
not believed to be life-threatening.

Troopers said only two of the teens was wearing a seat belt,
including the lone occupant who was not injured. The initial
investigation indicates the SUV was speeding when it passed a
vehicle, overcorrected and went out of control, flipping several
times.
