Media release from Sheriff Jimmy Harris of Dekalb County:
On June 16, 2009, Investigators with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Boaz Police Department concerning the dissemination of child pornography. Boaz PD Investigators had been made aware of child pornography existing at a residence within their city. Based on their information, a search warrant was obtained and executed on June 16 at a duplex in Boaz, where numerous movies and photographs of child pornography were seized. Arrested and charged in Boaz was Anthony A. McClendon, 49.
The Boaz PD Investigators had reason to believe that the disc containing child pornography had originated in DeKalb County. A joint investigation between the Boaz Police Department and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office into this case in our county resulted in the arrest of David Crockett Janey, IV, 49, of Crossville. Seized in a search of his home were four computers and several compact discs. A laptop computer was seized from another location that belonged to Janey.
All computer machines and software seized are set to be analyzed by forensic examiners with the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Science in Huntsville. There was sufficient evidence to charge Janey with Possession of Child Pornography, a Class C felony. Some of the CDs seized in Boaz appear to have been copied from sites on the internet to Janey’s computer in Crossville and then burned onto CDs. It appears that these discs were made by Janey and distributed to McClendon in Boaz.
Janey was arrested June 18 and transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center, where he remains awaiting bond at this time.
