The main suspect in the recent murder of a Bessemer fire fighter is now back in Alabama.

Hoover officers escorted 39-year-old Randall Johnson back from Mississippi - into the Hoover jail - just before eight Monday night.

Officers in Leake County, Mississippi arrested Johnson Saturday morning.

He’s the charged with the murder of his roommate,  Bessemer fire fighter David Oliver.

Officers found the Oliver’s body on Friday.  Early reports from Mississippi law enforcement, who picked up Randall, said Oliver had been shot 27 times.  Hoover police now tell us he was shot more than once, but not 27 times.

That’s when they began looking for Johnson.

They notified the Sheriff’s Office in Leake County, Mississippi to be on the lookout too - Johnson has family there.

Saturday morning, deer hunters off Highway 43 near the Leake County/Attalla County line called the sheriff’s office - saying they saw someone matching Johnson’s description.

When officers arrived on the scene, Johnson allegedly tried to escape.

“At that point some officers fired to stop the jeep, to disable the tires. He made it out of sight. About 15 minutes later he walked back out and surrendered himself,“  says Sheriff Greg Waggoner, Leake County, Mississippi.

No one was hurt during Johnson’s capture.

Johnson is being held without bond in Hoover because he is considered a flight risk.
