    U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary
Peters has appointed Birmingham attorney Luther Strange to the
advisory board of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

    Strange worked as a merchant marine in the North Sea before
going to law school.

    Strange was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in
2006 and is considering running for state office again in 2010. He
said he’s glad to be of service to the Merchant Marine Academy in
Kings Point, N.Y.
