A suspect wanted in several auto thefts has been captured in Tuscaloosa.
According to a news release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the arrest happened after a high-speed pursuit that crossed Tuscaloosa.
Arrested was Deandre Robertson, 24, of Tuscaloosa.
Patrol officers spotted the suspect driving a Ford Expedition that had been reported stolen July 2, 2009.
The pursuit began near Queen City Ave and University Blvd and continued through Westside, and eventually ending in the Alberta area.
The suspect’s vehicle was boxed in by several patrol units in the 500 block of 30th Ave East.
The pursuit lasted about 15 minutes and ended around 8:05 am CT.
Because of the light holiday traffic, the pursuit was far less dangerous than it would have been on a normal workday.
After being taken into custody, Robertson was interviewed by investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Robertson was charged with six counts of Theft of Property I (Auto), one Count of Receiving Stolen Property I (Auto), two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and three traffic citations resulting from the pursuit.
He was placed in the Tuscaloosa Metro Jail on a total bond of $240,000.
All the vehicles burglarized by the suspect were left unlocked.
The vehicles stolen were unlocked and the ignition keys left inside.
During interviews with investigators the suspect estimated he had committed more than 50 vehicle thefts and/or break-ins in the last few months.
The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible.
