WILMER, Ala. (AP) - Mobile County authorities suspect arson in a
fire that damaged the cafeteria at a new school in Wilmer.
The fire started at Wilmer Elementary around 6 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters spent almost three hours trying to put it out.
Mobile County School Facilities Manager Tommy Sheffield says it
appears someone set fire to several mops and threw them on the
school roof. Damage was contained to the cafeteria. No one was
hurt.
Sheffield says school’s out for the summer, giving officials
time to make repairs before fall.
He estimated damage at several hundred thousand dollars.
