Alabama Primed For Alternative Fuel Research
MONTGOMERY, Ala—There may be a long term plan to ease the pain at the pump right here at home. Alabama is pegged to lead the way in discovering alternative fuels. This comes from Agriculture & Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks.
Sparks said the state can produce switchgrass seed or ethanol, animal waste and biomass from trees. The department of agriculture is also researching the possibilities of sorghum and even sugar cane to create bio-fuels. All of this is being done in effort to become less dependent on foreign oils.
Of course, alternative fuels is a hot topic in the upcoming presidential election, elected officials on both the local and national level all agree that todays research won’t translate into lower prices at the pump for at least a decade.
