TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama is the nation’s new No. 1 team—just in time for a visit to Nick Saban’s former team. The Crimson Tide assumed the top spot in the rankings Sunday for the first time since winning the 1992 national championship.

Alabama hadn’t been a regular-season No. 1 since 1980. Now, ‘Bama is getting ready for a visit to No. 15 LSU, where Saban coached for five seasons. Saban insists the players and the teams are the story not him.

The Tide is coming off a 35-0 win over Arkansas State and has won its first nine games. Alabama moved up to the No. 1 ranking after Texas Tech beat Texas.
